Clear Explaination on TNPSC PSTM Certificate

TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) conducts exam to recruit civil servants required for the Government of Tamil Nadu. It conducts Group 1, Group 2, Group 4, VAO and more. For the equality of opportunity, there are reservations provided. TNPSC PSTM certificate will provide reservations for students who have studied in Tamil medium.

To understand it simply, just looking at the abbreviation is enough. PSTM certificate = Person Studied in Tamil Medium Certificate.

Who can Claim this Reservation:

As per the name, this reservation is for aspirants who had studied in Tamil medium. So here comes the confusion for many of us. Did that mean the person had chosen Tamil as a subject in exams like Group 2 or did schooling in Tamil medium or studied just Tamil as a subject while in school? TNPSC clarifies it as this reservation is applicable only for the students who have studied all the subjects in Tamil in school. It rules out what language you have opted for in the Group exam.

Next prevailing question is, for PSTM reservation eligibility should I have studied schooling in Tamil medium or college in Tamil medium? Some group exams have basic eligibility as a degree and some group exams have basic eligibility as 10th. So based on that it will change. If you are applying for Group 1 exam then the basic eligibility is a Degree. So you should have done your degree in Tamil medium. If you are applying for VAO exams, then doing schooling in Tamil medium is enough.

How to claim the Reservation:

While applying for TNPSC group exams you will be asked if you have studied in Tamil Medium. You have to opt yes for that. Based on the exam qualification you can choose it. As if the exam needs a degree as a basic qualification then you would need to have a Degree in Tamil medium.

Also to prove you have studied in Tamil medium you should be getting a certificate from your college or school.

Should I have a PSTM certificate before applying for the exam?

No, you can apply for a group exam first in the TNPSC portal and then you can reach your school or college to get a PSTM certificate. It is better to get a PSTM certificate earlier. Do not wait for the notification to come.

TNPSC Exams and Qualifications for PSTM:
